Expression of Survivin and apoptosis-inducing factor in gastric cancer

  • Objective To study the expression of Survivin and apoptosis-inducing factor(AIF)in gastric cancer and evaluate its value for the diagnosis and prognosis of gastric cancer patients. Methods Expression of Survivin and AIF in samples from 56 gastric cancer patients was detected with immunohistochemical methods. The patients were followed up. Results The expression rate of Survivin and AIF in gastric cancer cells was 71.43%and 66.07%,respectively.Survivin was not expressed but AIF was expressed in adjacent gastric cancer and normal tissues. No significant correlation was observed between Survivin and AIF expressions in gastric cancer. The overall 1-,3-,and 5-year survival rates for gastric cancer patients with or without Survivin and AIF expression were quite different(P<0.05). Conclusion The expression level of Survivin and AIF is higher in gastric cancer tissue than in its adjacent and normal tissues, and can thus be used as an index for the prognosis of gastric cancer patients. However, there is no significant correlation between the expressions of Survivin and AIF in gastric cancer.
