Comparison of cerebrovascular diseases in diabetics and non diabetics

The clinical features of cerebrovascular diseases in diabetics and non-diabetics admitted to our hospital in last 10 years were analysed retrospectively. Among 998 cases of diabetes mellitus 241 had cerebrovascular diseases. There were 1162 cases of cerebrovascular diseases without diabetes. The prevalence of cerebral thrombosis in diabetics was markedly higher （92.1%） than that of non-diabetic patients （67.9%）, the prevalence of cerebral hemorrhage in diabetics （3.3%） was much lower than that of non-diabetics （22.8% , P＜0.01）The cerebral thrombosis patients with higher blood sugur, lower serum triglyceride, not-treated for diabetes or even treated with insulin had serious cerebrovascular disease on admission. The risk factors of cerebrovascular diseases in diabetics are aging, hyperglycemia, hyperlipemia, and hypertension.
