Rubella virus antibody-IgM and fetal congenital heart disease

  • Objective: To understand the value of the mother serum rubella virus antibody-IgM determination in diagnosis of fetal congenital heart disease (FCHD). Methods: Serum rubella virus antibody-IgM and fetal echocardiography were examined in 102 pregnancies and repeated in suspicious FCHD cases after birth. Results: 11 pregnancies were RV-IgM positive (10.8%), in which 8 cases with FCHD (72.7%). After statistical calculation, the diagnostic sensitivity was 38.1%, specificity 95%; accuracy 84.4%, positive predictive value 72.7%, negative predictive value 85.7%, error diagnostic rate 27.3% and the misdiagnostic rate 14.3%.Conclusion: Serum rubella virus antibody-IgM determination in pregnancy is very valuable method used as screening for FCHD.
