Clinical analysis of the causes in 497 patients suffered from the fever of unknown origin with the classic type

Objective: To analysis the cause characteristics in the fever of unknown origin（FUO） patients with the classic type.Methods: The clinical data of 497 cases with classic FUO admitted to the Chinese PLA general hospital from January 2000 to April 2005 were analyzed.Results: The cause distribution of the classic FUO were: the infective diseases（38.0%,（189/497））,connective tissue diseases（165/497,33.2%）,malignant tumor（58/497,11.7%）,the other diseases（（46/497）,9.3%）and unknown diseases（39/497,7.8%）.The dominated diseases in the infective,connective tissue and malignant tumor diseases were tuberculosis infection（98/189,51.8%）,adult Still’s disease（51.5%,85/165）and lymphoma（56.9%,（33/58））separately.The non-typical lymphoma,lung cancer with obstructive pneumonia and necrotizing hyperplastic lymphadenopathy were the main diseases in the classic FUO misdiagnosis.Conclusion: The cause characteristics of classic FUO were helpful to their clinical diagnosis.
