Renal Allotransplantation from Cadaver Donors——Report of 15 cases

From October,1977 through December,1979,we performed renal transplantation in 15 patients.Up to February 15,1980,8 patients survived,two of them had lived more than 2 years.For the time being our clinical experience may be summed up as the following:
1.In order to obtain a longer survival period as well as higher survival rate,it is important that the general condition of the recipient for transplantation is good,so that the patient is given the best benefit from the operation.However,in highly risky patients,we should not give up the chance of renal transplantation on the excuse of keeping a better record.2.There seems to be no absolute relationship between tissue and ABO blood type and rejection rate of the graft.3.Peri-operative blood transfusions did not seem to do any harm to the graft.4.When it is necessary to rule out the possibility of supra-acute rejection,biopsy of the graft may be done,but it should be carefully done to prevent complications.5.To preserve grafts by a simple method for nine to twelve hours is usually successful.6.The dosage of immuran we used is smaller than that used in other countries,and the dosage varies in individual patients. 7.The administration of compound named“208”and prepared from Chinese herbs often raises the white cell count.8.When rejection occurs,the patient is subjected to betatron radiation with benefit and little side effect.
