A comparative study to detect the specific antibody of SARS patients by the serological methods

  • Objective:To compare serological methods(the Indirect ELISA with the Double antigen sandwich ELISA) to detect the specific antibody in the serum of SARS patients. Methods:The levels of the specific antibody in the serum of SARS patients in varied period, the healthy and feverous patients without SARS were detected by the Indirect ELISA and the Double antigen sandwich method. Results:The maximal positive detection rate of the specific antibody in the serum of SARS patients is 73.6% by the Double antigen sandwich method, whereas the maximal positive detection rate of the specific antibody in the serum of SARS patients is 57.5% by the Indirect ELISA,and furthermore, the positive detection rates of the specific antibody in the serum of SARS patients in varied period by the Double antigen sandwich method are greater than that by the Indirect ELISA,especially the positive detection rates of the specific antibody in the serum of SARS patients with in first week of hospitalization by the Double antigen sandwich method is 30%,whereas,the positive detection rates of the specific antibody in the serum of SARS patients in first week of hospitalization by the Indirect ELISA is 0%.Conclusion:The Double antigen sandwich method is superior to the Indirect ELISA in detecting the specific antibody in the serum of SARS patients.
