HISTOPATHOLOGIC FINDINGS IN METASTATIC TUMOR OF THE TEMPORAL BONE

  • A case of bronchogenic undifferentiated carcinoma with metastasis to the temporal bone was reported. Histopathological examination of the left temporal bone revealed cacinomatous lesions invading the submucosa of middle ear cavity, mastoid air cell and bone marrow of petrous apex. A mass of neoplastic growth was found arround the incudomalleolar joint and head of malleus. The bony wall of promontary and the bone marrow of petrous apex were partially destroyed. As there is remarkable resistance to tumor invasion in the bony labyrinth the inner ear has not been involved.
