The changes of Zn2+, Cu2+, Ca2+ and Mg2+ in serum and blister fluid in burn patients

  • Objective: Zn 2+ ,Cu 2+ ,Ca 2+ and Mg 2+ ions were determined dynamically in blood and blister fluid in 62 burn patients. Methods: 28 patients had sustained major burn (72.3%±22.7% TBSA with full thickness burns only) were observed. Results: It showed that in malor burn group, blood Zn 2+ ,Cu 2+ ,Ca 2+ and Mg 2+ declined significantly on PBD 1. Zn 2+ and Cu 2+ maintained at low normal levels, but Mg 2+ was lower than normal on PBD 1 to PBD 28. There were no significant changes in minor burn group. Meanwhile, the contents of Zn 2+ ,Cu 2+ ,Ca 2+ and Mg 2+ were higher in blister fluid and Zn 2+ and Ca 2+ in blister fluid were markedly higher than those in serum. Conclusion: Exudation from burn wound is an important route for losing of various ions.
