Abstract
Objective To analyze the therapeutic effect of calf bone transplantation on benign bone tumor of limbs. Methods General clinical data, surgical procedures and prognosis of patients with benign bone tumor of limbs admitted to our hospital from March 2005 to October 2009 for heterogeneous bone transplantation were retrospectively analyzed. Results One hundred and seven patients with benign bone tumor of limbs were enrolled in this study. They were followed up for 26.6±28.6 months.Nine of them were not followed up with a lost follow-up rate of 8.4%.Their mean age was 30.8±13.3 years(range 11-75 years)and their mean bone mass was 21.5±19.7g with a mean bone healing time of 6 months.Non bone union and fracture occurred.Rejection reaction occurred in 33 patients(30.8%).A significant difference was found in rejection reaction, gross tumor volume, total bone graft volume(P<0.05).However,no significant difference was observed in tumor type and location, age and gender of the patients(P>0.05). Conclusion Calf bone implantation has a good therapeutic effect on benign bone tumor of limbs due to its high fusion rate and low rejection reaction rate.
