NONPAROXYSMAL FUNCTIONAL TACHYCARDIA （NPJT）（1）

The ECG manifestations and clinical significance of NPJT without A-V dissociation in 63 cases were analyzed. Special attention was paid to the recognition of the retrograde P wave and the related literatures were reviewed. Our data indicated that the criteria for retrograde P wave should only be inverted P_{Ⅱ.Ⅲ. avF}, while an upright Pavr is not a necessary criterion.
This arrhythmia was often seen in normal persons especially when the rate was under 70/min. They might be caused by the predominated vagotonic influence on SA node. The other etiologic factors were some chronic heart lesions such as ischemia, inflammations and degenerative processes. They might be detected persistently or intermittently for a long period, being of no prognostic significance per se.
Six cases were found to have congenital heart diseases, in which some developmental anomalies during the fetal life might be involved in the production of this arrhythmia.
