Abstract
Objective To study the osteopontin(OPN) levels in gingival crevicular fluid(GCF) of persons with healthy gingiva and periodontal disease and assess the relation between clinical parameters and OPN level. Methods OPN levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). Results The OPN levels were higher in persons with periodontal disease than in those with healthy gingiva. There was a statistical difference among the three groups(P<0.05).The total amount of OPN in GCF was positively related gingival index, probing depth, attachment loss. Conclusion OPN level in GCF is related to the progression of periodontal disease, and can be regarded as a beneficial index to reflect the status of periodontal disease.
