Application of insulin pump in perioperative patients with diabetes and spinal tuberculosis

  • Objective To compare the clinical effect and safety of different insulin administration ways in perioperative patients with type 2 diabetes and spinal tuberculosis. Methods Thirty perioperative patients with type 2 diabetes and spinal tuberculosis, enrolled in this study, were randomly divided into insulin pump group(n=15) and multi-subcutaneous insulin injection group (MSII group, n=15). Blood glucose level and its control time, insulin dose, incidence of hypoglycemia, and wound healing were compared between the two groups. Results The blood glucose level was effectively controlled in both groups, which was lower in insulin pump group than in MSII group (P<0.05). The blood glucose control time, hospital stay time (day) and the incidence of hypoglycemia were lower in insulin pump group than in MSII group(P<0.05). Conclusion Insulin pump used in treatment of perioperative patients with type 2 diabetes and spinal tuberculosis is safer and more effective than MSII.
