Abstract
Objective To study how to decrease the dry ear time after modified radical mastoidectomy for chronic suppurative otitis media. Methods Of the 52 patients with chronic suppurative otitis media who underwent modified radical mastoidectomy at our department during July 2006-June 2008,20 in group A received routine therapy and 32 in group B received modified radical mastoidectomy(patients in both groups underwent plastic repair of cavity of concha and mastoid plombage).Dry ear time of the two groups was compared. Results The dry ear time of group B(59.28±14.77d) was much shorter than that of group A(96.25±39.33d) after modified radical mastoidectomy(P<0.01). Conclusion Plastic repair of cavity of concha, mastoid plombage, and thorough removal of pathological tissues are the keys to shorting the dry ear time after modified radical mastoidectomy.
