Abstract
Objective:To evaluate the effect and safety of transcatheter arterial embolization(TAE)of the ovarian arteries(OA) that supply to the pelvis neoplasm. Methods: TAE or transcatheter arterial chemoembolization of OA was performed supplementally in 30 patients whose OA supplying to the pelvis neoplasm.Routine hypogastric-uterine arterial chemoembolization or embolization was performed before TAE of OA.Results: Technical success of OA embolization was achieved in all 30 cases including bilateral OA embolization in 3 patients, and unilateral OA embolization in 27 patients, without severe complications related to the procedure.Six paients' bleeding from the vagina ceased immediately after supplemental OA embolization.Eighteen patients' pelvis neoplasm decreased obviously after the OA embolization and six patients' pelvis neoplasm had no obvious changes. Two patients developed transient symptoms of ovarian dysfunction after the OA embolization and their menstruation became normal after 3 months and 4 months without cure. Conclusion: Pelvis neoplasm can be supplied by OA.It is one of the reasons that curative treatment of pelvis neoplasm is not effective by routine hypogastric-uterine arterial chemoembolization or embolization.Supplemental TAE of OA is a safe and effective method in the management of pelvis neoplasm supplied by OA.
