Effects of zinc supplement on serum zinc, iron and erythrocyte fragility

  • Objective: To investigate the effects of zinc supplement on other trace elements and erythrocyte fragility after burn. Methods: The changes of serum zinc, iron and erythrocyte fragility were investigate in SD rats with 15% TBSA Ⅱ° burn injury on 1,3 and 7d postburn. Results: Serum Zn decreased, Fe and erythrocyte fragility increased in L group postburn, but serum Zn obviously increased, erythrocyte fragility and serum Fe decreased In H group when compared which L group. Conclusion: Supplement of diet Zn may significantly increase serum Zn and decrease serum Fe and erythrocyte fragility in postburn Zn deficient rats. Such effects may be related to the stablity of erythrocyte membrane.
