Changes of insulin-counteracting hormones during the period of ketosis in the type I diabetes

  • The concentrations of plasma glucose, glucagon(GG), ACTH, cortisol(F), growth hormone(GH), prolactin(RRL), TSH, T3, T4, urinary catecholamine(CA) and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxymandelic acid(VMA) were measured during the period of diabetic ketosis and 10 days after correction of ketosis in 10 male patients with type I diabetes(IDDM). It was showed that the levels of plasma GG, AGTH, F and urinary CA were remarkably increased during the ketosis(P<0.05, P<0.01) and all returned to normal levels after correction of ketosis. The rest of hormones were not changed very much. The results suggested that deficiency of insulin and elevation of plasma GG, ACTH, F and urinay CA might play an important role in pathogenesis of the diabetic ketosis.
