The Patterns of Treatment of 1121 Patients with Noninsulin-dependent Diabetes Mellitus

  • The patterns of treatment of 1121 patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) were studied. The results revealed that the percentages of patients injecting tnsulin, taking oral hypoglycemic agents and on diabetic diet only were 12.3%, 61.7% and 26.9% respectively in duration less than five years. The use of insulin increased to 41.7 percent for those patients with history more than 15 years. Compared with the results of other countries, ihe patterns of treatment in patients with short duration were similar, but lesser proportion of patients with duration longer that 15 years accepted insulin injection. Itwas Suggested that insuliu therapy should be started when oral hypoglyeemic agen ts was failed.
