Solid-cystic papillary carcinoma of the pancreas

  • The clinicopathologic characteristics of five cases of solidcystic papillary carcinoma of the pancreas(SPCP)were reported.SPCP,as an increasingly recognized clinicopathologic entity, almost exclusively affectwomen in younger age.Large nontender upper abdominal mass is the main finding at presentation,The prog-nosis is rnuch better than ordinary carcinoma after surgery.Pathologically,SPCP consists of intermixed solidand cystic area which is easily misdiagnosed as either nonfunctional islet celI tumor or as cystadenocarcinomabecause the histology of SPCP mimic these two tumors.Awareness of its existance is very important not onlyfor pathologiests but also for surgeons.
