Clinical analysis of aged subjects with ventricular premature beats（VPB）in 70 cases

This paper reported 70 aged subjects with VPB higher than gradeⅡ.These patients included 54 males and 16 females with an average age of 69.4 years.The shortest course of the VPB was 7 months and the longest,34 years.The cause the clinical significance and the treatment of this condition were analysed and discussed.The predominant cause of VPB was cornary heart disease in 58.5%,of cases and unknown in 20%.It was considered that in a small number of cases.This condition was resulted from coronary heart disease.Only five cases manifested with temporary ventricular tachycardia.Hence,in the aged subjects VPB was most likely benign.The severity of it depends mainly on the damage of myocardium and was not parallel to the ECG configuration,site of origin,ST-T abnormality and coupling intervals between the sinus beats and VPB.effect of the therapy with amiodarone and/or mexiletine was found to be better than that of other antiarrhythmic drugs.
