Effects of hyperthermia combined with taxol on human lung cell line A549 in vitro

Objective: To investigate the effects of hyperthermia combined with taxol on human lung cell line A549 so that to provide the possible guidance for the chemo hyperthermia therapy with taxol.Methods: MTT assay was used to observe the cytotoxic activity of hyperthermia combined with taxol on A549 cells.Results: Both the hyperthermia and taxol had cytotoxic effects on A549 cells. The potentiating effects of hyperthermia on taxol cytotoxicity were observed at 43 and 45°C. The treatment sequence of applying hyperthermia and taxol did not affect the results.Conclusion: Hyperthermia could enhance the taxol cytotoxicity on A549 cells. Since taxol has liminal temperature effect, the temperature should be properly controlled when taxol combined with hyperthermia is applied.
