A comparative study of radical surgery of TMJDS with organic lesion and high condylectomy

Nine dogs were used in this experiment. The morphologic, microscopic and ultrastructure changes in the temporomandibular joints after operations of radical surgery and high condylectomy were compared. It was observed that there were full condylar regeneration, perfect cartilage repairring, intact meniscus and retained inferior articular space in the group of radical surgery while disc-condylar adhesion, disc perforation and erosion in the glenoid fossa in the group of high condylectorny. It is suggested that radical surgery be a method of joint reconstruction which corresponds to biological, physiological and anatomical structure.
