Effect of vacuum sealing drainage on serum C-reactive protein and IL-6 level in pigs with multiple gunshot wounds

  • Objective To observe the serum level of inflammatory factors in pig extremities with multiple gunshot wounds after treatment with vacuum sealing drainage(VSD). Methods Debridement of gunshot wounds in extremities of 12 pigs was performed 6h after injury. The pigs were randomly divided into control group and experiment group.Pigs in control group received traditional treatment, while pigs in experiment group was treated with VSD.Serum C-reactive protein(CRP) and IL-6 levels were measured in the two groups by ELISA. Results No significant difference was observed in serum CRP and IL-6 levels before and 6h after injury between the two groups(P>0.05).The serum CRP and IL-6 levels increased gradually in the two groups and reached their peak at 48h and 24h respectively after injury. However, the serum CRP and IL-6 level was significantly lower in experiment group than in control group(P<0.01). Conclusion VSD can significantly decrease the serum level of inflammatory factors in pig extremities with multiple gunshot wounds and systemic inflammatory response.
