Relationship between serum pancreatic polypeptide(PP)level and diabetic autonomous neuropathy

  • This paper presents the fluctuations of serum PP level before and after egg-meal in normalsubjects (NS) and diabetics. In patients≤50 years old (Group Ⅰ),the basal PP level was notdifferent between NS-Ⅰ and diabetics without cardiac autonomous neuropathy (NDCAN-Ⅰ) or withcardiac autonomous neuropathy (DCAN-Ⅰ).Whereas,the response to egg-meal in DCAN-Ⅰ was significantly lower than NS-Ⅰ and NDCAN-Ⅰ (P<0.01 & <0.05),which was related to auton-omous neuropathy. In patients >50 years old (Group Ⅱ),there was no statistical difference am-ong NS-Ⅱ,NDCAN-Ⅱ and DCAN-Ⅱ,except in NDCAN-Ⅱ,its PP levels before and after egg-meal were higher than NS-Ⅱ(P<0.05),which was of a nonspecific variation. It was believedthat serum PP was a useful biochemical index in the diagnosis of diabetic autonomous neuropa-thy.
