Abstract
Objective To investigate effect of hepcidin and IL-6 on burn anemia. Methods A burn model of mice was induced by 90℃ vapor. Iron level in spleen of burned mice was measured by colorimetry. Hepcidin mRNA level and serum IL-6 concentration in liver were measured by RT-PCR and ELISA,respectively. Results Within 24h after burn, the serum IL-6 concentration increased 2-fold. Hepcidin mRNA started to increase and then decrease, and the iron change in spleen was reversed. Conclusion Increased IL-6 concentration and hepcidin expression may be one of the reasons for the occurrence of anemia after burns.
