Abstract
The experiences in the management of three cases of recurrent, serious pyosepticemia caused by gram-negative bacilli were reported.Everyone of them was young female with the onset of their diseases at the age of about eighteen. All three had had appenoectomy before. However recurrent abscesses developed at the sites of surgical incisions or elsewhere in the body for over forty times in the sebsequent years followint the operations.Besides they had attacks pyosepticem ia and toxic shock 2-11 times.Cultures of the pus or blood grew gram-negative bacilli, chiefly E.coli and not infrequently pseudomonas aeruginosa,B.proteus,Klebseilla etc.coplications caused ny infections due to candida albicans occurred quite often.Their condition was usually quite cri- tical. Our experiences were chiefly that:1.the purulent foci should be vigorously treated and the immunodeficiencies corrected, and proper nutrition as well as fluid and electrolytes balances should be maintained;2.persistent and prolonged treatment until the recovery of the impaired immunity was mandatory, and 3.the appendix, just like the spleen being secondary lumph organ, engaged in the immune activity of the body and herefore,in young female patients suffering from mild appendicites, appendectomy should only by done after careful consideration.
