Abstract
Objective: To study the protective effects and recovery function of Ginkgo biloba extract(GBE) on rats spinal cord injury. Methods: 75 wistar male rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: A(sham-operated group);B(control group) C(GBE treatment group).group B treatel with NS and group C,GBE 40mg/kg,were respectively intraperitoneally injected into the rats 1 hour after SCI,then given GBE at a day interal 5 deys. After the last treatment, the 5 rats(each group) were killed and the levels of SOD、MdA and NO were measured and after last treatment 1、 5、 10 days motor function of lowor limb was evaluated according to Salzma’s grading eriteria and MEP was recorded. Results: The levels of SOD in group C was Singnificantly higher than in group B(P<0.05) and the level of MDA、NO in group C was Significantly lower than in group B(P<0.05).Distinct handicap of motor function in lower limbs presented and amplitudes(Peak-Peak between P1 and N1) of MEP reduced,Amplitudes in group C recovered better than in group B in each measured time(P<0.05). Conclusion: GBE can decrease the production of free radicals after SCI and accelerate undee reversion of MEP and promote motor function recovery of SCI.undee restoration of MEP begans ealier than that of motor function of lower limbs.
