Carroll’s surgical technique for clubfoot

Objective:To investigate the procedure of Carroll's surgical release for clubfoot.Methods:Seventeen patients with 20 clubfeet were treated by the Carroll's surgical release from 1994.1 to 2003.1.12 patients were male and 5 were female.There were 5 left feet and 9 right feet and 3 bilateral feet.The average age at the time of surgery was 3.7 years with a range of 9 month to 9 years.Results: Exposure was well done during the operation.All incisions were not high tension.The skin incisions had not developed necrosis.Stitches was taken out after 10 to 14 days.The wound healed well.At an average of 3 years with a range of 1 to 9 years of follow-up,the incision scar was not appeared markedly.The contour of foot and x-ray results were satisfactory.Conclusion:The treatment of Carroll's surgical for clubfoot is well for exposure and avoiding injury of heel medial blood vessel,and good healing with minimal scarring and good cosmesis.
