Choriocarcinoma following term gestation

  • Nine of tweuty six patients with choriocarcinoma developed this neoplasm after term gestation. All had metastatic disease at the time of diagnosis. Four patients (44.4%) had cerebral and/or hepatic involvement. Five (55.6%) of these nine patients achieved complete remission. Among the four deaths, 3 had cerebral and/or hepatic involvement, another one died of other disease. So the corrected remission rate is 66.7%. Post-term choriocarcinoma appears to have a propensity for early dissemination with frequent involvement of the brain and/or liver. And every patient showed undergo meticulous metastatic evaluation. Once metasted, the patient should be treated with a combination of chemotherapy selective use surgery and irradiation.
