Abstract
Objective: TO investigate the etiology of coronary angina pectoris resulting from the unbalanced relations among the viscera. Methods: In light of the viscera-related theories, an analysis was made of the relationship between the etiology of angina pectoris and the liver, spleen, kidney and lung, which was illustrated with examples. Conclusion: Clinical practice indicates that the mechanism of coronary angina pectoris is very complicated and its etiology lies not just in the heart. For this reason, when conducting diagnosis and treatment based on overall analysis of symptoms and signs, the cause, nature and location of the illness and the patient’s physical condition according to the basic theories of TCM, one should pay attention not only to such incidental symptoms as stagnation of qi, blood stasis, turbid pathogens, pathogenic cold and accumulation of heat but also to such fundamental symptoms as hypofunction or dysfunction of the viscera. Attention should be paid not only to the pathologic changes of the heart itself but, more importantly, also to the impact of the pathologic changes of such organs as the liver, spleen, kidney and lung on the function of the heart.
