Abstract
Objective: To study the expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) in the diabetic nephropathy of type 2 diabetes. Methods: Eight Kkay diabetic mice (KA) and Kkay control mice (KB) were treated with the same diets for four months and were sacrificed after the glucose were detected. The renal pathological changes were examined by periodic acid schiff (PAS), and the glomerulosclerosis index (GI) was calculated. The expressions of ICAM-1 protein and mRNA were detected by immunohistochemical staining and RT-PCR. Results: The pathological changes of diabetic nephropathy in KB group were serious compared with KA group evidenced by morphological changes. It was showed that the diabetic nephropathy in kkay mice was companied by higher expression of ICAM-1 protein and mRNA levels in the glomeruli, and the mean positive area of ICAM-1 in KA group was higher than that in KB group (15.22 vs 4.38, P <0.01). Conclusions: The expression of ICAM-1 in diabetic nephropathy was enhanced, which may be related to the appearance and progression of nephropathy.
