Study of effect of free radical in chronic renal failure patients

  • In this study lipid peroxide level of plasma and erythrocyte membrane, the contents of whole blood superoxide dismutase and the concentrations or Copper, Zinc, and Iron in plasma, erythrocyte membrane fluidity were investigated in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF). In comparison with healthy subjects, the level of lipid peroxide in plasma and erythrocyte membrane were significantly higher (P<0.001 and P<0.05). The contents of the whole blood superoxide dismutase were significantly lower in the patient with CRF (P<0.001). The concentrations of plasma copper increased (P<0.05) and the concentrations of plasma zinc decreased (P<0.01), but plasma Iron was normal in the patient with CRF. We found that elevations of lipid peroxide in erythrocyte membrane are closely related to the change in erythrovyte membrane fluidity.
