The clinical study of breathing heliox in severe asthmatics

  • Objective:The study evaluated the effects of breathing helium-oxygen in asthmatic patients. Methods:Eight asthmatic patients breathing heliox(FiO2:21%) for 120 minutes with assisted respirator of recycled using helium. The datas of pulmonary function test, arterial blood gas values of the patients were recorded. Results:The results demonstrate that heliox can reduce breathing work, ameliorate oxygen diffusion and expired flow, but the duration is very short after stopping breathing heliox. Conclusion:The study suggests that the assisted respirator of recycled using helium can save helium distinctively, and the clinical applications demonstrate that the instrument is useful for treating severe asthmatic patients.
