Laparoscopy operation and laparotomy for pelvic abscess in females: A comparative study

Objective To study the clinical features and treatment of pelvic abscess in females. Methods Clinical data about 49 patients with pelvic abscess admitted to our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. Results Pelvic abscess was usually found in females at the childbearing age with symptoms such as fever,lower abdominal pain and pelvic mass.All the patients underwent laparoscopic operation and laparotomy.The laparoscopic operation was advantageous over laparotomy in control of blood loss,fever,infection,and hospital stay time after operation. Conclusion Cervix secretion culture and MRI play an important role in the diagnosis of pelvic abscess.Laparoscopic surgery can achieve better outcomes,thus it should be done once pelvic abscess is definitely diagnosed.
