Experimental study of photosensitive effects produced by argon and dye lasers in the treatment of rat’s liver tumors

Abstract
This article presents the comparative results in quantity of necroses of tumor issue n rat’s liver including Hematoporphyrin Derivative irradiated by Argon(488—514.5nm) and Dye630nm) lasers. The results show that Dye laser can destroy deeper tumor tissues than Argon aser, The maximal average of necrotic depth is 2.85mm in Dye laser group, but only 1.75mm in rgon laser group. However, it seems that Argon laser’s action on the surperficial tissue is tronger than Dye laser. By using the same size of light spots, the average necrotic area on he rradiation surface in Argon laser group is 48.18% larger than that in Dye laser group. These esults demonstrate that Argon and Dye lasers have different action in photodynamic therapy in ivo. According to their specialities, we should properly choose these two kinds of lasers as ight sources in photodynamic therapy.
