Abstract
Objective: To study the effect and the prognostic influencing factors in surgical treatment for NSCLC in the elderly Methods: From January 1980 to January 1998,the clinical data of 124 patients who underwent operation for NSCLC in PLA General Hospital were analyzed by Kaplan-Meier,Log-rank test and COX regressi on model 11 potential prognostic factors were evaluated with SPSS 10.0 software Results: Overall 5-year survival rate was 49.4% The 5-year survival rates of patient with stageⅠ,Ⅱ,ⅢA and ⅢB were 72.3%,37.6%, 32.4% and 0, respectively There were significant differences among different stages (P<0.01) The 5-year survival rate was 58.7% in group that patients were examined without symptom, while 43 6% in group with symptoms There was a significant difference between two groups (P<0 001) In addition, there were remarkable differences of 5-year survival rates in groups based on lo cal lymph node metastatic and tumor size and histological type, respectively Conclusion: A good efficacy can be made in elderly patient with NSCLC by surgical treatments TNM staging and histological type are important prognostic factors in operated NSCLC in elderly Prognosis could be improved by regular examination
