Effect of far-infrared composite carbon fiber device on re-warming of hypothermia

Abstract
Objective To assess the re-warming and biological effect of far-infrared composite carbon fiber device on hypothermia.Methods Thirty healthy New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into 3 groups(10 in each group).The rabbits were immersed in(21.0±0.5)℃ artificial ice sea water till their rectal temperature reached 30℃,then spontaneously re-warmed using blanket,or in warm bath or with far-infrared composite carbon fiber till their rectal temperature reached 35℃.The re-warming time and body temperature decrease after re-warming were recorded.Venous blood was collected 3h before immersion and re-warming and 3h after re-warming to measure the levels of ATPase and lactate in RBC membrane and plasma,respectively.Results The re-warming was significantly faster in water bath group and far-infrared group(P<0.01).The decreased amplitude of body temperature was the smallest in far-infrared group,followed by water bath group and spontaneous re-warming group(P<0.01).The ATPase level in RBC membrane was significantly higher in far-infrared group than in water bath and spontaneous re-warming groups(P<0.01).The lactate level in plasma was significantly lower in far-infrared group than in water bath and spontaneous re-warming groups(P<0.01).Conclusion Far-infrared composite carbon fiber device can rapidly re-warm ice sea water-induced hypothermia of rabbits with a small decreased amplitude of body temperature,an increased level of ATPase and lactate in RBC membrane and in plasma respectively after re-warming,and a significant protective biological effect.
