Nursing of patients during uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery

Objective To study the nursing of patients during uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery（VATS）. Methods Clinical data about nursing of 173 patients during uniportal VATS performed in our department from August 2006 to March 2010 were retrospectively analyzed. Results Of the 173 patients,29 underwent lobectomy,112 underwent pulmonary wedge resection,and 32 underwent mediastinal tumor resection.The pain was relived after operation.All the patients could move about out of their bed 1-3d after operation.The average chest tube drainage time was（3.1±1.6）d,and the mean hospital stay time was（6.2±2.2）d.All the patients had a smoothly recovery without severe complications.No patient died after operation. Conclusion Uniportal VATS has the advantages of less pain and rapid recovery.Carefully nursing of patients can speed up their recovery.
