Abstract
This paper reported on the determination of diphenyl hydantoin (DPH) level in the blood of 30 patients with epilepsy treated by oral administration, with a dosage arranged according to Ludden’s method, using a radio-immunological method. The result showed that the average effective concentration in the blood is 14.33±4.26μg/ml,and that the patients were generally serious poisoned when the blood drug level was higher than 40μg/ml. Ordinarily, blood drug level was kept constant for 1—2 weeks in most patients and 3 weeks in a few. There was no difference between the valices estimated and examined when the dosage was adjusted according to Ludden’s method. The study suggests that the drug therapy is an integral part treatment of epilectic seizures. In order to reduce the toxicity of the drug used and improve its therapeutic effect regular administration of the drug variation with the individual condition of the patient and regular medical supervi- sion should be observed. The test for blood drug level is necessary, but not absolutely needed.
