Correlation of apoptosis correlative gene expression and androgen-dependent and ablation in prostate carcinoma

Abstract
Objective: To explore the relationship of apoptosis correlative gene Fas、bcl-2 and androgen-dependent and ablation in prostate carcinoma. Methods: Expression of Fas,bcl-2 in 74 cases of prostate carcinoma(Pca) tissues,22 cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) tissues,14 cases of normal prostate(NP) tissues was detected by immunohistochemical staining method. Results: (1)Fas were expressed in all the detected tissues.Bcl-2 was present in 75.0% Pca tissues,54.5% BPH tissues,35.7% NP tissues.The expression of Fas was the strongest in BPH tissues,and the weakest in Pca tissues((P<0.05)).The difference of bcl-2 expression between Pca group and BPH or NP group was statistically significant((P<0.05)).(2)The intensity of Fas expression in 17 cases of androgen-dependent prostate carcinoma was stronger than that in 9 cases of androgen-independent prostate carcinoma(P<0.05),while the expression of bcl-2 in androgen-independent prostate carcinoma tended to be marked.(3)The expression of bcl-2 in Pca tissues after androgen ablation was significently reduced than before(P<0.05).The expression of Fas was unchanged after therapy. Conclusion: The low expression of Fas and the high expression of bcl-2 may be the important reason of the development and progression of prostate carcinoma.Both Fas and bcl-2 may take part in the progression of Pca from androgen dependence to androgen independence and the expression of bcl-2 might be possible to predict the effect of androgen ablation therapy.
