Clinical observation on use of erythrocytes suspension-Report of 713 cases

Erythrocytes suspension has been used in the treatment of gynecological, pediatric and emergency cases of various types of amemia with satisfactory results, of the 713 patients. 498 were males, and 255 were females, whose age being 84 years of the oldest patient, and 13—60 years in most patients. To these 713 patients altogether 1708 bottles of erythrocytes suspension were given, among which 347 belonged to blood group "A". 659 to "B". 549 to "O"and 153 to "AB",the maximum single tramsfusion was 1200ml, 534 patients were given with only erythrocyte suspension without any adverse reactions or side effects. During intra-operative transfusion, the patients′ blood pressure was kept stable without blood diffusion, its effect being similar to that of transfusion with whole blood. The transfusion with erythrocytes suspension does not only improve the effect of clinical treatment. but also reduce the chance of transmission of diseases to the minimum, being the main measure for reducing complication following massive blood transfusion. Whenever the requirements for erythrocytes suspension transfusion are deliberately followed, changes in the coagulation mechanism will not occur. In correspondence. with the observation that the side effects following erythrocytes suspension transfusion. are similar to those after whole blood transfusion.
