Application of vacuum sealing drainage in treatment of spinal sinus tract tuberculosis accompanying infection

Objective To study the application of vacuum sealing drainage（VSD） in treatment of spinal sinus tract tuberculosis accompanying infection.Methods Foci of spinal sinus tract tuberculosis accompanying infection in 20 patients admitted to our department in March 2006-April 2009 were removed and washed with placement of VSD.The VSD was pulled out and the patients were given anti-infection and anti-tuberculosis treatment after operation.The wound was closed after 10 days.Results The wound was healed quite well.The patients were followed up for 12-36 months（mean 24 months） during which no formation of sinus tract was observed in all patients.After closure of the sinus tract,the tuberculosis foci were removed with different procedures,internal fixation of the fractures was performed according to their different sites,and the spinal tuberculosis was then healed.Conclusion VSD is a simple,pain-free and efficacious procedure for spinal sinus tract tuberculosis accompanying infection with a rather good therapeutic effect,thus providing the preparation of operation for the treatment of sinus tract formation and relapsed spinal sinus tract tuberculosis due to the rupture of abscess.
