Epidemiological investigation of dental caries in a navy special operation force

Abstract
Objective To investigate the prevalence of dental carries in persons of a navy special operation force. Methods Dental carries of 400 male persons at the age of 19-47 years,(mean 25.43±5.31 years),in a navy special operation force,were investigated on the spot or by examining their mouth cavities.The investigators were dentists. Results Dental carries were found in 161 persons,accounting for 40.3% of persons investigated.The number of DMFT was 237 and the average number of DM was 0.91.The number of dental carries needing to be treated accounted 68.3% of the total DMFT. Conclusion The oral health of persons in navy special operation force is not so good.Their dental service condition should be improved and prevention of oral diseases should be strengthened by making a plan for the disease prevention and control.
