Clinical Value of Radionuclids Salivary Imaging in the Diagnosis ofXerostomia

  • Radionuclide salivary scintigraphy was carried out on 49 cases of xerostomia usingTc-99m-O 4.Judged by tracer uptake, distribution and clearance of parotid glands, and other im-aging characteristics, the scintigram were graded into four groups:normal(-)5,slightly abnor-mal(+)19,mild() and severe abnormal(),20 and 5 cases respectively, In most cases,no correlation was observed among age, sex, duration of illness, lab findings and scintigraphicappearence, but significant relationships were revealed between scintigraphy and γ-globin;Longer history of disease was demonstrated in patients in()group.Good theraputic responeswere observed in most cases, with 2 cured cases being in(-)group,while 2 noneffective casesbeing().On the whole, the true-positive rate of salivary scintigraphy in diagnosing xerostomiais 90%,and specificity is 91.6%.
