Effect of different vessel injury methods on the formation of proliferation lesions in the illiac arteries in microswine

Abstract
Objective:To investigate a methods as an animal model of advanced vascular atherosclerosis (AS) suitable for testing catheterbased interventions by observing the degree of luminul proliferation after artery injury.Methods:The iliac arteries in 21 Guizhou microswines were subjected to injury with use of balloon overexpanded and delivered tantalum wire coils. Results:The vessels were studied microcopically 12 weeks after injury. The lesions showed that the luminal diameter narrowing≥Ⅲ were 46.9% in hypercholesterolemia balloon group, 20.8% in nomal level cholesterolemia balloon group (P<0.05) and 42.9% in hypercholesterolemia tantalum wires group. The arteries of 5 swines occurred acute total occlusion after balloon injury. no one was occluded in tantalum wires group. Both the lesions consist largerly of the proliferative smooth muscle cells.Conclusion:(1)both the mathods of injury induced forming of severe luminul narrowing. It easily occurres acute vessel occlusion afetr balloon injury. (2)although the lesions appeared histologically similar to human lesions, it is different from typical of human AS.
