Abstract
Experimental diffuse tubulointerstitial fibrosis was rapidly induced by UUO in mice. By the 15th day of UUo, the tubulointerstitium showed extensive epithelial cell necrosis, inflammatory cell infiltration and interstitial volume expansion. By the 18th day of UUO, focal cellular proliferation occured in renal interstitium and then replaced by extensive cellular proliferation at the 21st day of UUO, By the 24th day of UUO, the renal interstitium showed diffuse fibrosis. These proliferative cells in renal interstitium were identified as fibroblasts by immunohistochemical stain. The result suggested that fibroblasts may play an important role in tubulointerstitial fibrogenesis.
