Endoscopic submucosal dissection of superficial upper gastrointestinal lesions

Objective To study the value of endoscopic submucosal dissection（ESD）of superficial upper gastrointestinal lesions. Methods ESD of superficial upper gastrointestinal lesions was performed from January 2007 to May 2009 for 200 patients,including 57 patients with esophageal lesions and 143 patients with gastric mucosal lesions. Results The en bloc resection rate was 88.2%,the total resection rate was 96.1%,and the curative resection rate was 85.7%.Perforation occurred in 4 patients.Of them,1 underwent thoracotomy,3 were conservatively treated. Conclusion ESD is an effective procedure for superficial upper gastrointestinal lesions.
