Fibrolameller carcinoma of the liver: A report of an unusual case

  • Fibrolameller hepatic cell carcinoma is a special type of carcinoma of the liver. The tumor usually grows slowly by expansion to attain a huge size without evidence of local or distant metastasis. In such patients, the serum AFP test is usually negative. A female patient of 49 years old with a large tumor mass in the upper abdomen for 7 years duration. The preoperation diagnosis was thought to be cavernous hemengioma of the liver on the basis of imaging characteristic and the negative AFP test. Right hepatic trisegmentectomy with resection of the tumor was performed on 29th, Nov, 1986. The tumor mass was weighing 6Kg. Patient made an uneventful recovery, she gained 15 Kg of weight 7 months after the discharge from the hospital. This tumor seems to be the bigest one even been reported in the literature.
