Radioimmunoassay of Gastrin and Its Normal Serum Values in Chinese

Abstract
A radioimmunoassay (RIA) of gastrin was established for the first time in this country by using a high-quality anti-serum, higher specific activity of 125 1-SHG-1 and the double antiserum separation technique. Antibodies against gastrin have been elicited in rabbits which were immunized by multiple-site intradermal and foot pad injection with purified gastrin-17 conjugated to bovine serum albumin. The antiserum thus produced had a higher potency and specificity. The sensitivity of this RIA was 5pg, the precision, 2.79% and the recovery rate, 90-108%. Gastrin value showed a linear decrease concomitant with the dilution of the serum from 1:1 to 1:8. The fasting gastrin levels of 79 healthy individuals ranged from 11 pg per ml to 140 pg per ml, with a mean of 62.12±28.71 pg per ml (mean±SD).
