Abstract
Objective: To determine Na+,K+,Ca2+,Mg2+ concentration and simultaneously observe the morphological changes in the rat lens with seawater immersion, and then analysis the relationship between them. Methods: At the different time following seawater immersion, the concentration of Na+,K+,Ca2+,Mg2+in rat lenses was determined by ICP-MS.The morphological changes were simultaneously observed. Results: Following the prolongation of the time with seawater immersion, the concentration of Na+,Ca2+,Mg2+ gradually increases, but the concentration of K+ gradually decreases in the rat lenses. The concentration of Na+,K+,Ca2+,Mg2+ approximately restore normal in the group which the incision were sutured after 30 min with seawater immersion. At 30 min with seawater immersion, lenses were apparently cloudy. The epithelia were early damaged.Further, fiber cells in the cortex occur the degeneration and necrosis. Conclusion: There is close relationship between the changes of Na+,K+,Ca2+,Mg2+concentration and the damages of the rat lenses.
