Health education about hepatitis B in peripartum women of Zhangjiakou district

Abstract
Objective To investigate the current health education about prevention and treatment of hepatitis B in peripartum women and its influence factors. Methods A questionnaire survey of knowledge about prevention and treatment of hepatitis B in peripartum women admitted to Hebei North University First Hospital from January 2008 to January 2009 was conducted and its influence factors were analyzed. Results Of the investigated female patients,71.4% and 44.2% had the knowledge about hepatitis B and its prevention and treatment,respectively,while 10.6% had hepatitis B vaccination and 4.1% had effect after the whole course of vaccination.There was a statistical difference in knowledge about prevention and treatment of hepatitis B in peripartum women with different demographic characteristics(P<0.01).Factors,such as education degree,living location,job,domestic economy status,were related with the knowledge about prevention and treatment of hepatitis B.The paternal-fetal vertical transmission of knowledge about hepatitis B virus was only 2.8%. Conclusion The knowledge about prevention and treatment of hepatitis B is poor in peripartum women of Zhangjiakou district.Great efforts should be made to popularize the knowledge about hepatitis B,especially the knowledge about its paternal-fetal vertical transmission.
